Telemedicine App Development: Video Visits That Fit a Clinic

Published August 12, 2023 · 6 min read

A telemedicine app is a clinic with the waiting room removed. Everything else, the booking, the record, the prescription, the payment, still has to happen, and it has to happen in the clinic's name.

Telemedicine App Development: Video Visits That Fit a Clinic

Telemedicine app development produces an app in which a patient books a slot, is seen by a clinician on video, receives a note and a prescription, pays the clinic, and finds the whole visit in a record afterwards. GBCORP’s white-label healthcare and clinic app already carries the booking, the video visit, the record and the payment, so a clinic or a group of clinicians launches a branded telemedicine service within days at a flat monthly plan, with the patient data in a project in the clinic’s own name.

The video visit itself

Video runs inside the app, not in a separate meeting tool, so the clinician sees the booking and the record on the same screen as the patient. A connection test before the slot catches the failed calls that otherwise consume the first five minutes. Chat and image sharing sit beside the video for the rash, the wound and the label on the bottle. A visit can switch to audio when the connection drops, and the record notes the change.

Prescriptions, notes and follow-up

The clinician writes the note from a template per visit type, issues a prescription in the format the market uses, sets a follow-up and closes the visit. The patient receives the note and the prescription in the app and by e-mail from the clinic’s own domain. Nothing is dictated into a personal phone, and nothing lives in a chat thread.

Payment and the clinic’s own account

Consultation fees are collected at booking or after the visit, through the clinic’s own payment gateway, with no commission from GBCORP. Packages and subscriptions for regular visits are configured in the console. Receipts are issued automatically, and the report shows visits, revenue and no-shows per clinician.

Checklist before launch

  • Clinicians, specialties, slot lengths and fees.
  • Consent text and the retention rule for records.
  • Visit-note and prescription templates.
  • Payment-gateway account in the clinic’s name.
  • A mailbox on the clinic’s domain for confirmations.
  • The three numbers to watch: booked-to-seen rate, no-shows, follow-up bookings.

The numbers to expect

Live within one to five working days on the web, store listings after review, a flat monthly plan. Integrations with laboratory, pharmacy or insurance systems, and multi-site groups with unusual rules, are custom work on the same engine, scoped in a week and quoted per release. Customised or more complex functionality is quoted separately before any work starts.

A worked example

A group of eight clinicians in three specialties wants to offer video visits under its own name rather than through a directory that takes a share of every fee. On the white-label clinic app, each clinician gets a calendar, slot lengths and fees; patients book in the branded app, answer three pre-visit questions and pay at booking through the group’s own gateway; the visit runs on video inside the app; the note and the prescription reach the patient in minutes. The group is live in a week, keeps every fee, and reads booked-to-seen rate and follow-up bookings every Monday.

Consent, records and retention

Consent to a video visit is captured at booking with the text the clinic’s adviser approved, and stored against the visit. Records are kept for the period the clinic sets, in a project in the clinic’s own name, and every access is logged by user and time. A patient can request an export of the record from the app. Recording of visits is off by default and, where switched on, requires consent from both sides and shows a notice on the screen.

Triage and the queue for urgent visits

A patient who cannot wait for a slot joins an urgent queue, answers the triage questions and sees a position and an estimated wait. The next free clinician in the specialty takes the call from the console. Questions that indicate an emergency show the patient the emergency instruction the clinic configures before anything else. The report shows queue waits by hour, which is the list of where to add clinician capacity.

Multi-market and multilingual

A clinic serving patients in two countries sets language, currency, tax and payment provider per market, with right-to-left layouts as a setting. Prescription formats and consent texts differ per market and are configured. Clinicians licensed in one market are shown only to patients in it.

Reports the clinic reads

Visits booked, seen and missed per clinician. Waits in the urgent queue by hour. Revenue per specialty reconciled to the gateway. Follow-ups booked and kept. Patient ratings after each visit. Exports for the accountant and for the regulator. All in the console, updated as the day happens.

Ownership of the service

Brand, patient data, records and accounts are the clinic’s. Store and payment accounts are in its name. Records are exportable at any time in a standard format. On custom releases, the code is the clinic’s, and no credentials are retained by GBCORP after a hand-over unless a support contract requires them.

Questions we hear first

Is the video secure?

Calls are encrypted end to end between the two apps, and nothing is recorded unless the clinic switches recording on with consent.

Can patients see several clinicians?

Yes. A group practice lists each clinician with its own calendar, fees and specialty.

Where are the records stored?

In a dedicated cloud project in the clinic’s name, in the region the clinic chooses, exportable at any time.

Can it work alongside in-person visits?

Yes. The same booking and record serve both; a visit is simply marked video or in person.
