BIPV façade pricing confuses buyers because two products hide in one: cladding and generator. Separate them and the 2026 numbers become simple — and considerably friendlier than most first quotes suggest.

The substitution effect, done right
The classic mistake is comparing BIPV to rooftop panels per watt. The façade was getting clad regardless; the honest formula is:

On projects specifying premium finishes, that difference can shrink to €100–200 / m² — for a skin that then generates for 25+ years and cuts cooling loads from day one. What moves a quote up or down
Up: many unique panel sizes, deep custom colors, high transparency ratios, complex geometry, short programme. Down: repeating grids, opaque spandrel zones, early supplier involvement (before the glazing system is frozen), and combining vision-glass PV with opaque BIPV from one manufacturer under one electrical design.
Payback, honestly stated
Vertical façades yield roughly 50–70 % of an optimally tilted roof per installed watt — offset by the substitution effect, cooling savings in hot climates, and the sheer area available. Whole-project paybacks in the 6–12 year range are common on 2026 tenders where the cladding budget was real. Demand the model, not the slogan: a serious supplier will hand you yield per elevation, not a single blended number.
