AI Development Services: What Is in the Price and What Is Not

Published December 13, 2023 · 6 min read

AI development services are sold in many shapes. This is GBCORP's list, item by item, so a business can compare it with any other quotation and see what a price includes.

AI Development Services: What Is in the Price and What Is Not

GBCORP’s AI development services take a business from a process it wants to improve to a model-driven step running inside its software, measured every week. The services below are what a fixed price per release includes, and the last section is what it does not, because the difference between two quotations is usually in the second list.

The service list

What the fixed price does not include

Model usage, which is passed through at cost and shown on the same weekly report as accuracy. Cloud project usage, in the client’s own account. Work on a second process, which is its own release. Data preparation beyond the examples the business supplies, where records are in a state that needs cleaning first; that is scoped and priced before it starts. GBCORP lists each in the quotation so nothing appears later.

Data handling as a service

Documents and prompts leave the client’s project only for the request, under terms that exclude training. Sensitive fields are masked before they leave. Everything sent and received is logged. The model provider account is in the client’s name with usage visible. A security questionnaire is answered from the design.

How to compare quotations

Ask each provider the same questions: is there an evaluation set, and who owns it; where is the review screen, and when is it removed; is model usage inside or outside the price; can the model be swapped without a rebuild; what does the support plan cover. Two quotations with the same headline price rarely include the same list.

Checklist before requesting a quotation

  • The one process to improve first and the system it lives in.
  • Fifty to two hundred real examples with their correct answers.
  • Who reviews outputs at first.
  • Fields that must be masked.
  • The accuracy at which the review can be removed.
  • The number that defines success at three months.

The numbers to expect

Scoping in one week. A first step live with its review screen in three to eight weeks at a fixed price. Accuracy measured weekly. Model usage at cost; support at a known monthly figure. Customised or more complex functionality is quoted separately before any work starts.

A worked example

A logistics company asks for a quotation to automate the reading of delivery notes. The scoping week produces two hundred examples with their correct values, a scope for the extraction step with a review screen, and a fixed price. The first release reads the notes into the system with a person confirming each; the weekly report shows accuracy per field. By week six, the review is removed on the reference number and the date, and stays on the quantity where a mistake costs money. The company sees model usage on the same page as the hours saved, and commissions a second step for supplier invoices.

The support plan for an AI step

An AI step needs care after launch that ordinary software does not: models change, inputs drift, and the evaluation set must grow. The support plan covers weekly evaluation runs, alerts when accuracy falls, model updates tested against the set before release, cost monitoring, and hours for prompt and format changes. It is a known monthly figure, and it is the reason the step is as accurate in year two as in week six.

Working with the business’s own team

Where a business has developers, GBCORP delivers the step as a documented service they can call and later maintain, with the evaluation set and the weekly report handed over. Where it has none, GBCORP runs the step under the support plan. Either way the service, the prompts, the examples and the logs live in the business’s own project, so the choice can change later without a rebuild.

Multilingual from the start

Assistants answer in the user’s language from content written in one. Extraction reads several scripts. Classification works across languages. Interfaces are multilingual with right-to-left layouts as a setting. A business serving several markets builds one step.

The first step, then a programme

The first step proves the method on an easy process. The second uses the same service, evaluation habit and review screen on a harder one. Within a year, a business has a handful of measured steps and one weekly page showing each one’s accuracy and cost. GBCORP runs its own operations this way.

Ownership of the work

The service, prompts, evaluation set and logs live in the client’s own cloud project and are the client’s. The model provider account is in the client’s name with usage visible. On custom work, the code is delivered. No credentials are retained after a hand-over unless a support contract requires them.

Questions we hear first

Do you offer AI strategy without building anything?

The scoping week is that: it produces the process, the examples, the scope and the price, and the documents are yours whether or not GBCORP builds.

Can we pay per month instead of per release?

The support plan is monthly; the build is a fixed price per release so the scope is fixed too.

Which industries?

Any repeated process with a clear right answer: finance queues, service desks, catalogues, records, operations.

What if accuracy never reaches the target?

The weekly report shows it early; the review stays, the scope is adjusted, or the project stops with the evaluation set as the asset.
